Evidence of attacks on media institutions, killing of journalists destroyed: Min. Sagala Ratnayaka


Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayaka says that that the evidence pertaining to the murders of journalists and attacks on media institutions that were carried out during the previous government, have been destroyed.


The minister made this statement in response to a question raised by JVP MP Nalinda Jayatissa.

Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayaka noted that there are 13 on the list,  details pertaining to murders of journalists. And there are journalists who disappeared including Pradeep Ranjan Eknaligoda – and there are 87 names of journalists who were assaulted while there are 20 journalists who have been arrested.

When asked to name the institutions, he replied that there are five, including Lanka enews – Sirasa which was attacked twice, Daily Mirror which was attacked once and Siyatha, and in most of these cases the files had been made classified.

He added that several cases were taken up again, and investigations are being carried out and evidence pertaining to these have been destroyed.
